

Long Lake Park Shoreline Improvements
The vegetation clearing along Long Lake was completed as part of general maintenance and shoreline cleanup efforts. The work included the removal of invasive/nuisance vegetation to help improve the health and appearance of the area, while also providing better lake access for residents interested in recreational use. Curlyleaf Pondweed Treatment - Spring 2026 Update
One of the biggest challenges of managing the water quality in Long Lake is the control of Curlyleaf Pondweed. We have worked with the City and their suppliers to manage an annual process that has served us well. Specifically, every April we survey the Lake for projected growth of Curlyleaf, and then treat the most problematic areas. The Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation District is putting on a "Shoreline Course" for their Landscaping for Clean Water grant program this Thursday April 2 at Apple Valley City Hall from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. The course will provide information on how a natural shoreline installed with native plants can protect your shoreline, enhance water quality, provide habitat for pollinators and aquatic animals as well as beautify your property. A Step Toward Cleaner Waters at Long Lake
Last week marked an important milestone in protecting Long Lake’s water quality. Nutrient-filtering bags were installed at five key inlets (see map) to help reduce phosphorus entering the lake.
