Recent Work on Long Lake

If you’ve taken a stroll around Long Lake lately, you may have noticed something different on the western edge near the park — a little more sky, a little less brush, and a clearer view of the shoreline. Before anyone starts imagining new development plans or secret lakefront projects, here’s the scoop.

What you’re seeing is simply routine maintenance. City street crews have been hard at work clearing brush and trimming back trees around the sand filter basins and shoreline area. These basins play an important role in filtering stormwater runoff before it makes its way into the lake, helping keep Long Lake clean and healthy. Over time, vegetation can overgrow the area, making it harder to access and maintain these systems properly.

The recent clearing improves visibility, accessibility, and overall function of the drainage infrastructure — and it also gives the park a slightly more open, refreshed look. It may feel a bit bare at first, especially if you’re used to the thicker tree line, but this type of maintenance is essential for protecting water quality and preventing future issues.

So if the landscape caught your eye, now you know — just good old-fashioned upkeep to keep Long Lake looking great and functioning as it should.
