With last weekend's rainy weather, Long Lake is as full as I've seen it in the five years I've lived on the shoreline. I'm sure many of you have seen the lake overflowing, but I'm completely surprised (pleasantly) that our lake has more than recovered from last year's drawdown. Many areas of Lakeville, Apple Valley and Eagan received four-plus inches of rain May 31 and June 1.
Below is a photo of our wood duck house showing the water lapping within an inch or two of the metal predator guard. Normally, the water level is 8 to 12 inches below the metal cone.
In other news, the City of Mound disposed of untreated waste water by funneling into three nearby lakes. Residents were a tad upset about how the city disposed of the waste, which threatened several peoples' homes. Now the affected lakes are off limits because of possible e. coli contamination.
