Update with Date of Treatment to Previous Post re: CLP

Blue Water Science completed the annual pre-treatment aquatic plant survey on Long Lake to determine curly-leaf pondweed (CLP) treatment areas.  Attached are the results and the proposed City treatment areas. Thankfully any high projected growth areas are clustered in two areas in the "west-middle" and "east middle" portion of Long Lake (see page 2 for graphic). Therefore, chemical treatment in these two areas should minimize CLP growth in the entirety of Long Lake (see page 3 for graphic). The treatment areas represent 12% of Long Lake, and the DNR only allows up to 15% of a Lake to be treated chemically in one year.

The City is utilizing a different company to complete the treatment. They will use a new chemical that is more selective for CLP. It’s expected that the treatment will provide benefits outside the treatment area. However, if any homeowner chooses to treat up to 150 feet near their shore, that is their perogative. Please email Paul Habegger (President of LLWA) for contact info of the company doing the treatment if desired (longlake@prodigy.net).

The treatment needs to occur before water temperatures get too high, and the target date this year is prior to May 15. We will send you a more specific date once the City and contractor agree on one.

We are grateful for a Dakota County grant covering the CLP surveying costs, and the City of Apple Valley paying for the two targeted treatment areas.
